Sr. Tesa Fitzgerald of ''Hour Children'' makes a point at the 2014 Prison Ministry Forum

Sr. Tesa Fitzgerald was to be our keynote speaker. She is Executive Director of Hour Children, an organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of intergenerational incarceration. Sr. Tesa began this work in 1989 when she became a foster parent to eight children of incarcerated mothers at the convent where she lived. In 1996 Hour Children became a 501 (c)(3) organization offering a wide range of supportive services for both children and their mothers, including housing, child care, mentoring, job training and placement. Sr. Tesa will be accompanied by mothers who are returning citizens.

We were fortunate to have Sr. Tesa at the 2014 Connecticut Prison Ministry Forum, Hope on the Horizon, where she received a standing ovation. We were very sorry that she could not speak in 2019.

Lawrence Bartley was our afternoon speaker.

Lawrence Bartley is a Communications Associate at The Marshall Project, a nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization that seeks to create and sustain a sense of national urgency about the U.S. criminal justice system. Lawrence Bartley holds an advanced degree in Professional Studies from New York Theological Seminary and a B.S. from Mercy College. Previously, he co-founded Forgotten Voices and its successor, Voices From Within, which now seeks to address gun violence and mass incarceration.

Mr. Bartley has provided multimedia content for the New York News 12 Emmy-winning three-part series Drama in the Big House, WNYC's Death, Sex and Money podcast, and his "Power of a Parent's Voice" TEDx talk (the video will be shown at this Forum). Wipf and Stock, The Marshall Project, and Vice have published his writing.

For more information about Lawrence Bartley's work and writing, you can visit The Marshall Project website at WWW.TheMarshallProject.Org

In addition to our speakers and the video, there were panel discussions with returning citizens and their families. Q & A sessions followed each panel discussion.

Beverages and snacks were offered throughout the Forum, and a light lunch was served, all were included in the $10 registration fee.
